AASRCC Speakers Schedule 2012

January 21: Ellen Brennan, Cultural Resource Program Manager

Grand Canyon National Park, Science and Resource Management

Program: “Grand Canyon Archaeology: Excavations along the Colorado

River” and focuses on the findings of an excavation project that took place along the

Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park between 2006 and 2009.

February 18: Miles Gilbert,

Program: “Hashknife Cowboy Archaeology”. The USDA-Natural

Resources Conservation Service has funded removal of brushy juniper from many

thousands of acres of rangeland across the length and breadth of the former Hashknife

Ranch. In its heyday it covered some two million acres and had one pasture that

encompassed 900 square miles. Prior to brush removal archaeological surveys were

conducted resulting in the discovery of ancient man sites, prehistoric pueblos, and

cowboy campsites.
